Facebook likes are beneficial to your website in a couple of ways. First, they can help to improve your search engine rankings drawing in more organic visitors and second, they can help you drive traffic to your website from Facebook itself. So, how do you go about getting your website’s first Facebook likes? You can get your first likes by simply adding a Facebook “Like” button to your website’s pages.

Make your website likeable

Luckily, adding a Facebook Like button to a web page is fairly simple because Facebook creates and provides all of the necessary code. Simply visit the Facebook Developers’ Like Button page at and fill out the short form. When completed, you will be given the Like button code that can then be added to your website’s pages.

Depending on your choices when filling out the form, you will be given several different code options including HTML5, XFBML, IFRAME, and URL. Each available option includes a set of instructions to help you add the Like button to your pages. If you wish to add a Like button to several pages, it is recommended that you use the XFBML option so that you won’t have to specify a separate URL to be linked with each Like button.

Once you have added a Facebook Like button to your website, all you will need to do is wait. Whenever a visitor likes what they see, they will have the option of liking the page on Facebook. The liked page will then be linked from their Facebook profile, which over time will help you to improve your search engine rankings and drive more traffic to your website.
